00. Quick Thoughts
If one day you discover that your partner is having an affair, what would you do? Pretend like nothing happened and go about your day? Or do what Hyeon Woo did – confront your partner and demand to know the truth?
My Wife’s Having an Affair This Week revolves around 3 couples showing different sides of marriage and divorce. We mainly follow Hyeon Woo and Soo Yeon as they try to mend their marriage.
I wanted to watch this drama as soon as it hit my radar but I was so conflicted. I didn’t want to watch a story about cheating. The same reason why I skipped Valid Love. But then again, I love both LSK and SJH so much that I decided this was worth it. And so my weekend of misery and crying began …
01. A Dive Into
My Wife’s Having an Affair This Week throws us into the messy emotional life of Hyun-woo, a TV producer who finds himself spiraling when he suspects his wife, Soo-yeon, might be cheating. His once-stable, calm marriage becomes a whirlwind of doubt and paranoia as he questions every moment, wondering what he might’ve missed and if he’s somehow responsible.
Lost and afraid to confront her directly, Hyun-woo does something many of us would do in a moment of crisis: he turns to strangers online. He pours out his heartbreak on a forum, looking for answers and connection in a sea of anonymous faces. In return, he gets a crazy mix of advice, empathy, and some brutally honest opinions from people who know nothing about him. And as if that isn’t confusing enough, his friends and coworkers start chiming in with their own thoughts, each story more outrageous than the last.
Through Hyun-woo’s journey, the show gives us a funny yet raw look at how love and trust can feel fragile, especially in today’s world. Will he find forgiveness? Move on? Or is it time to rewrite the rulebook on love altogether?
02. Meet the Characters

Lee Sun Kyun – Do Hyeon Woo
A well-regarded TV producer who suspects his wife is having an affair. Deeply emotional and plagued with insecurities, he struggles to understand his marriage and himself.

Song Ji Hyo – Jeong Soo Yeon
Hyun-woo’s wife, a calm and composed character whose motives and inner thoughts are central to the plot. Her side of the story keeps viewers guessing about her true feelings and intentions.

Lee Sang Yeob – Ahn Jun Yeong
A younger colleague of Hyun-woo, who is constantly involved in complicated relationships. Though inexperienced, he provides comic relief and occasionally insightful advice.

Kwon BoA – Kwon Bo Yeong
A senior writer who works with Hyun-woo and has a practical, no-nonsense approach to life and love. She acts as the voice of reason in Hyun-woo’s chaotic journey, with her own secrets and regrets.

Kim Hee Won – Choi Yoon Gi
Hyun-woo’s friend, a lawyer with a jaded view on marriage and fidelity. Known for his brutally honest (and often pessimistic) views on relationships, he becomes Hyun-woo’s unlikely confidante.

Ye Ji Won – Eun Ah Ra
Yoon-ki’s wife, who seems oblivious to her husband’s cynicism and mischief. Her cheerful, slightly naive demeanor adds a light-hearted touch but reveals deeper emotions as the story unfolds.
03. Plot Points & Popcorn Moments
Hyeon Woo has everything. A happy married life. A fulfilling career. Great friends. Everything was perfect … until that unexpected text.

The moment that message popped up – I felt a pang in my heart. I felt his heart sank. Upon discovering that his wife is having an affair, he becomes dumbfounded. He couldn’t process what was happening.
Hyeon Woo was mad. He was livid. Is Soo Yeon having an affair? Who is this Michael? I saw the change in his eyes. The sense of betrayal, the distrust.

Then he did the stupidest thing he could do … he becomes so desperate that he posted his dilemma on the internet. Hoping that strangers would give him some advice. The moment he typed, I groaned involuntarily. I understand the desperation but also saw the trainwreck that is about to happen.
Hyeon Woo did consult his friends. Or rather received unsolicited advice. Understandably, it’s biased depending on who said it. Some said wise words that might help, and some gave stupid advice and justification. But bottom line is, he should talk to Soo Yeon about it. Cheating doesn’t happen out of the blue. Bo Young expands on this later in the series but ultimately, there’s a reason why it happened.

But then again, people hear what they want to hear. And when anger overwhelms you, shit happens.

He went. I wouldn’t do this myself, it is not my thing. I honestly thought he was both insane and brave for being there. I understood why he went. He deserved to know, everyone does.
This was heartbreaking. I wanted to calm him. I wanted to hug her. I told myself to brace myself because the confrontation is only the beginning.
The issue really is that Hyeon Woo’s hurt, angry and unsure. Add the fact that there’s really no communication between him and Soo Yeon. With no answers, everything just piles up. This results in resentment and passing blame. The only thought in his head is that he’s the husband who’s cheated by his wife. There are times I hated his guts because of how nasty he treated Soo Yeon.
Since he can’t talk to Soo Yeon, Hyeon Woo vents his anger to the other guy. He even forces him to call the wife, which he did. How low can one go really?

We follow the story with Hyeon Woo’s POV but halfway through we hear Soo Yeon’s. I wasn’t expecting this so its was a pleasant surprise.
I felt that Soo Yeon’s POV gave the story more depth. Now we’re given both sides of the coin. More areas to focus on. It leveled the playing field for both parties. Although Soo Yeon’s POV was fewer compared to her husband, it gave the story complexity.
She is no longer just the cheating wife. We see her side as she strives to be her best despite the struggle. I appreciate the show highlighting that cheating is more than physical kinship. Cheating does not equate to sexual exploits but its also emotional.

Okay so let’s talk about me not talking about the other 2 couples. I barely discussed them because I was truly invested with Hyeon Woo and Soo Yeon. If you want my opinion, I’m perfectly OK without the other couples. I know that Joon Young and Bo Young were a favorite in the show but I realized that I dislike Sang Yeob’s character.
He’s loud, rowdy and has this confused expression all the time. But come to think of it, seeing him in Mafia Game this is his usual self. Maybe I dislike his acting style – still not sure. BoA was OK and her character’s rockin’ but I tuned them out, in all honesty, resulting in my disconnect with them. The other couple, KHW and YJW are phenomenal actors so I have no issues with them. They became my palate cleanser – brought the laughs when the series became too heavy.
Don’t get me wrong though. I do like the secondary characters for the value they added however for me, removing them from the equation wouldn’t affect me either. Also kuddos to both LSK and SJH for their great performances. LSK does not disappoint in his roles so I enjoy his works greatly. I do wish SJH does a better job picking roles because she’s a great actor. She’s such an underrated talent. Think that she’ll be perfect with something heavy and non-romcomy stuff.
04. Setting the Mood
I love the fact that the series took their time despite it being only 12 episodes. They didn’t dump everything in one go. Because of how they relayed the story, I felt the progress was organic and realistic. As we go deeper into the issue, the more invested we became. I think this helped lessen the bias because everybody usually takes sides. We discover, alongside Hyeon Woo, that their marriage is dysfunctional. Not broken but also not happy.
My favorite part of the series is when Hyeon Woo talked to his ex. Talking to an ex does a lot because they won’t mince their words. Like, true friends, they’ll tell you straight to your face if you are not who you believe yourself to be. It’s like the episode from How I Met Your Mother. People are clueless about their annoying quirks and habits until someone notices them.

Another thing I love about this series is how they didn’t romanticised the relationships. Each couple experienced their own version of heartbreaks. We got to see the different sides and struggles whether through drama or comedy.

05. Is This My Cup of Ramyun?
What I loved ~
What Didn’t Worked ~
Special mention to LSK and SJH for fantastic performances—both delivered in their roles. LSK’s versatility shines again, while SJH’s talent deserves more recognition in roles beyond romantic comedies.

06. Weekend Binge or Weeknight Dud?
If you’re the kind of person who likes dramas with a dash of real-life messiness and humor, My Wife’s Having an Affair This Week is for you.
Its perfect for anybody who likes to dive into stories dissecting messy realities. It’s raw, funny, and painfully relatable—perfect for anyone who craves a story where love isn’t always perfect, and where “happily ever after” might just be up for debate.
If you like a drama that’s more about soul-searching and tough truths than sugarcoated romance, this series is your next binge.
